Din acest motiv, evidențierea grupelor de risc pentru dezvoltarea cancerului gastric pacienții cu leziuni precanceroase — gastrita cronică atrofică, metaplazia intestinală gastrică, displazia epiteliului mucoasei gastrice și supravegherea atentă a acestora este o prioritate în vederea creșterii depistării timpurii și, implicit, a scăderii morbidității și a mortalității provocate de această maladie.

Astfel, datele epidemiologice privind prevalența, incidența și trendurile cu vârsta ale gastritei cronice atrofice, metaplaziei intestinale gastrice și displaziei epiteliului mucoasei gastrice sunt neomogene din cauza diferențelor metodologice dintre studii.

Summary Although the incidence of gastric cancer has decreased significantly in the last century, the disease is still one of the leading causes of death from cancer worldwide. For this reason, the detection of risk groups for the development of gastric cancer patients with precancerous lesions — chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia of the epithelium of the gastric mucosa and their close monitoring is a priority to increase early detection and, consequently, decrease mortality and morbidity of this disease.

Thus, epidemiological data on the prevalence, incidence and age trends of chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia of the epithelium of the gastric mucosa are inhomogeneous due to methodological differences between studies.
